| Local CO2 Suppliers Metro DC & Baltimore areas | | Gas vendors appear to be a very independent lot. Most are friendly and helpful. You want to do business with them. Some act like they are doing you a favor just to talk to you. A few put their nose in the air as they inform you that they "ONLY deal with commercial accounts". Roberts Oxygen is by far the most prominent CO2 supplier in the area. Unfortunately they are also the most expensive and at a few locations, not that friendly. Nitrogen & nitrogen mix sources were not explored. If you have knowledge of such sources, please forward them to webmaster@burp.org for inclusion here. Also, we've been told that you can get CO2 refilled at most paintball shops. - AirGas, Alexandria said they will exchange an out-of-test empty tank, at no charge for hs test, if the tank is in good condition.

- "hs test" refers to the hydrostatic test performed on high pressure tanks to assure their safety
| | | | | CO2 Tank Information | | Hydrostatic Testing DoT regulations and Compressed Gas Association standards state that all tanks, steel or aluminum, used for the storage of CO2 which measure over 2 inches in diameter must be hyrdostatically tested every five years. Hydrostatic testing consists of inserting the tank into a water filled containment vessel and increasing the pressure to five-thirds (5/3) of it's rated pressure. If the tank fails, as in the picture to the right, it does so in the water filled container designed to contain the blast. To determine your next test date, look for a mfg date or last test date on your CO2 tank near the valve. There are lines of text stamped (not stenciled or penned) into the metal which list information about the tank. Here is an example: DOT-3AL 1800 X16022 LUXFER 02A95 - 5# C02 TW7.6 - DOT-3AL = DOT class 3, Aluminum
- 1800 = 1800 psi rated pressure
- X16022 = lot number
- LUXFER = mfg name
- 02A95 = mgf date (Feb 1995)
- 5#CO2 = 5 lb max fill weight of CO2
- TW7.6 = 7.6 lb empty tank weight
The above tank would be due for hydrostatic testing in February 2000. When tested, that date is stamped into the tank. | |
